Hailing from a feudal lineage, Rishiraj Singh was born on 10th October 1981 in the world renowned tourist destination Jaipur (popularly called Pink City) that is situated in the culturally and historically rich state of Rajasthan.
Rishiraj attended the St.Xaviers School in Jaipur and went on to do college at the Fergguson College in Pune, Maharashtra- the city that houses the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). Though acting had been a dream since childhood, living near the FTII strengthened his resolve.
THE ACTING BUG
Years ago, the acting bug had bitten his grandfather - an army officer who was being launched on the silver screen by the legendary Ashok Kumar, but was summoned back home by his orthodox father- a man who was guardian to half a dozen kings and among Rajputana's first graduates. Fortunately for Rishi, the orthodox views changed with time. The family was supportive of his dream and ambition.
During completing his Economics majors, Rishi enrolled in Kishor Namit Kapoor's acting lab - a studio responsible for producing some of the biggest stars and actors of Indian cinema. With the diploma complete, Rishi embarked on his Bollywood adventure.
Once in Mumbai (Bollywood), he attended noted dramatist Nadira Babbar's theatre workshop
Then came the international talent hunt, ' India's Best Cinestar ' hosted by leading entertainment corporation ZEE Television Network. Rishi made it to the top ten from amongst millions of contestants.
After having worked in short films made by direction graduates of FTII and University of Southern California, similar assignments followed with independent filmmakers. He then debuted in modeling with acclaimed director John Matthew Matthan (Sarfarosh, Shikhar).
Rishi's first big screen appearance will bear fruit in August 2008. HEROES is directed by Samir Karnik (Kyu? Ho Gaya Na, Nanhe Jaisalmer).
His friendly cameo is alongside a stellar cast comprising of some of India's biggest stars- Sunny Deol, Salman Khan, Bobby Deol, Preity Zinta, Sohail Khan and thrice national awardee Mithun Chakravarty.
Then came the big break- BHOOMI (Homeland). Rishi plays the protagonist in this socio-political drama produced by Shahnab Alam and directed by twice national awardee cinematographer Abhik Mukhopadhya (Paatal Ghar, Bunty aur Babli, Chokher Bali, Last Lear).
The cast includes Rajat Kapoor, Pawan Malhotra, Biju Phukan, Seema Biswas, Piyush Mishra, Shahna Goswami, Ankur Khanna, Risha Phukan and Arjun Mathur.
With the publicity making waves at Cannes, the film is slated for a November 2008 release.
School and college days saw Rishi participating regularly in dramatics, strengthening his resolve to take up acting as a career.
Though a jack of trades such as Volleyball, Basketball and Soccer, Rishiraj has been a state level swimmer during his student days.
