Once in Mumbai (Bollywood), he attended noted dramatist Nadira Babbar's theatre workshop
Then came the international talent hunt, ' India's Best Cinestar ' hosted by leading entertainment corporation ZEE Television Network. Rishi made it to the top ten from amongst millions of contestants.

After having worked in short films made by direction graduates of FTII and University of Southern California, similar assignments followed with independent filmmakers. He then debuted in modeling with acclaimed director John Matthew Matthan (Sarfarosh, Shikhar).

Rishi's first big screen appearance will bear fruit in August 2008. HEROES is directed by Samir Karnik (Kyu? Ho Gaya Na, Nanhe Jaisalmer).

His friendly cameo is alongside a stellar cast comprising of some of India's biggest stars- Sunny Deol, Salman Khan, Bobby Deol, Preity Zinta, Sohail Khan and thrice national awardee Mithun Chakravarty.

Then came the big break- BHOOMI (Homeland). Rishi plays the protagonist in this socio-political drama produced by Shahnab Alam and directed by twice national awardee cinematographer Abhik Mukhopadhya (Paatal Ghar, Bunty aur Babli, Chokher Bali, Last Lear).

The cast includes Rajat Kapoor, Pawan Malhotra, Biju Phukan, Seema Biswas, Piyush Mishra, Shahna Goswami, Ankur Khanna, Risha Phukan and Arjun Mathur.

With the publicity making waves at Cannes, the film is slated for a November 2008 release.

School and college days saw Rishi participating regularly in dramatics, strengthening his resolve to take up acting as a career.

Though a jack of trades such as Volleyball, Basketball and Soccer, Rishiraj has been a state level swimmer during his student days.
